Overview / History
The Rutherfurd Hall Foundation was established in 2015 as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. That year, the Foundation launched a capital campaign to support restoration and improvement projects, including the installation of ADA-compliant restrooms on the main floor. In 2026, a generous donation from the Friends of Rutherfurd Hall enabled the Foundation to hire a local landscape designer to replace the plantings surrounding the building. The Foundation continues to seek grants and other funding to support the operation, preservation and improvement of Rutherfurd Hall.
The Trustees of The Rutherfurd Hall Foundation, Inc. including four direct descendants of Winthrop Rutherfurd, serve as stewards of this rare, surviving estate, which is more than 120 years old and now operates as a historic museum and community center. In partnership with the Allamuchy Township School District, the Trustees raise funds for preservation, restoration, and capital improvements while overseeing the day-to-day operations of Rutherfurd Hall.
